My Why
Praerie is a small, woman-owned brand designing dresses that are built to be as wearable as they are flattering and encourage everyone to embrace their dynamic ability to be many things. Praerie dresses are breathable enough to wear while you garden, work from home, and road trip -- while also feminine and flattering enough to wear to a night out or a summer BBQ. Each piece is created to be worn to everything life throws your way, and made to last. We only work with luxury fabrics and prioritize quality in our production process, so you can do just about anything in your Praerie piece. Each piece is designed to feel dreamy and whimsical, while still being easy to wear and style for the everyday.
Quinn, the founder of Praerie, grew up in the California hills exploring the trails behind her house, playing sports, and climbing trees while a passion within her drew her to fashion from a young age - a stereotypical “girly” pastime. Never feeling like she fit into either the 90’s perception of tomboy or girly girl, she learned to embrace her dynamic ability to be both. After graduating college, she attempted to make working in the tech industry fulfilling but ultimately decided she’d rather follow a passion in the fashion industry. After years of applications to entry-level roles and a healthy dose of rejection; Quinn left her friends, family and the comfort of California behind for a job at a brand she had dreamed of working at since she was a little girl. On March 15th, 2020 - Quinn’s first day of work in this new role - the pandemic hit and she was furloughed with no end date forcing her to drive directly back across the country in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. With this unfortunate change of plans, Quinn decided to make the most of this situation and create Praerie. After eventually returning to work full-time, Praerie became a seemingly unattainable dream that she put to the side yet never stopped yearning for. Quinn is excited to finally share Praerie with you and is determined to make it more than just a daydream. Praerie is her heart in the form of dresses, designed to help everyone embrace every side of themselves.

We want each piece we produce to last a lifetime in an effort to help produce less waste. Fashion inevitably creates waste from shipping, extra scrap fabric and overbuying. Because of this, we do not want to boldly claim sustainability in all our practices, but instead chose to avoid fast fashion trends in favor of dresses that are timeless in design and lasting in wear. The more times you wear a Praerie dress, the less wasteful it becomes. We produce each dress in small batches and aim to have a high sell through rate. We will also be introducing a buyback program in the near future to ensure each piece can be loved by more than one owner.

We built Praerie to design clothing that is as wearable as it is flattering and feminine, because you shouldn’t have to choose. Praerie dresses are breathable enough to wear while you work from home, road trip or go to the grocery store. They are uniquely designed to have a forgiving waistline, comfortable sleeves, and a versatile length. We choose the softest possible fabrics for our dresses without sacrificing on the integrity or durability of them. Each dress is sewn by expert seamstresses who specialize in intricate detailing and quality, so you can do just about anything in your Praerie piece.

We don’t think you should ever have to sacrifice one side of yourself so why should your wardrobe be any different? There is no need to sacrifice style for comfort in a Praerie dress. We’ve figured out how to deliver on both. While each piece is designed to be worn every day, we’ve chosen fabrics that feel elegant to the touch, flattering shapes and intricate detailing to make each dress a unique wardrobe addition for your feminine side.

BEHIND THE NAME
Growing up in California, I always loved the way the landscape would turn from a deep green to a pale yellow right before my eyes. It signaled the changing of the seasons and more time spent in my favorite place, the hills. Naming this brand was easy because the prairie fields behind my home had always been my favorite place to escape to. We hope our dresses inspire you to be outside more and remind you of your favorite place to be.
